Please click on the following pictures to enlarge them. I took them from Michelangelo Square this morning December 19th, 2009. This panoramic hill can be considered a natural terrace overlooking the city of Florence: best view guaranteed!  The statue of David (it’s a copy, a famous copy anyway, the original is in the Academy museum) was covered with snow … so were the trees, the roofs, the dome, everything. It was hard to walk because of the snow around and many people– both locals and tourists – were here taking pictures of this amazing rare event. It probably snows once every five years in Florence.

On the last 3rd of October of 2009 the Florentines were offered a free guided tour of the new Italian Bank “Cassa di Risparmio”  situated in an area of Florence called “Novoli” where many new buildings such as the new Court and University of Florence are being build.

As always with the Italians art and design are an important mark of this new building. At the back

we find a formal garden created with the typical mediterranean flora that one can usually find along the coast of Italy. As an additional Tuscan touch we can admire ligned up terracotta vases with lemon trees that cannot be missed in the usual Toscana garden or park.

IGOR MITORAJ is a living contemporary Polnish artist whose works can be seen inside the Boboli Gardens behind the Pitti Palace in Florence, in Greve in Chianti, in Pietrasanta near the Tuscan coast where he opened his atelier years ago and now in the garden and inside the building of the new “Cassa di Risparmio” in Florence.

THE FUTURE OF ITALIAN TOURISM AT TTG TRAVEL FAIR

THE LEADING B2B TRAVEL EVENT IN ITALY

The fair lasts 3 days and as I’m writing it’s still on. I was there yesterday, October 16th 2009. It’s considered the most important travel fair in Italy, it’s only open to the professionals operating in tourism: mainly tour operators, travel agencies, hotels. It is attended by thousands of business people: visitors, buyers, exhibitors. Exhibiting firms and buyers are from Italy and from many other countries around the world.

Here one also learns about the latest and most sofisticated sofware and technology to use.

There are conferences, interviews, clasees to attend for the travel agents who want to broaden their knowledge in tourism, novelties in the travel industry.

The financial crisis has hit heavily everywhere.  Thanks to its incredible cultural heritage Italy will find a way out! CULTURE, ART, “ITALIAN WAY OF LIFE” are Italy’s best arguments and potentials for the coming years.
