Giotto represented a huge change in the XIVth century art. The first who used the ”chiaro-scuro” technique in painting and gave a modern look to the saints, madonnas, etc. that he painted in the cities of Assisi (Church of San Francesco), Padua (Cappella degli Scrovegni), Florence (Churches of Holy Cross and Santa Maria Novella).
We bring to your attention the EXHIBITION ABOUT GIOTTO taking place in Rome at the Vittoriano building until June 29th, 2009. In the museum you will be able to watch an extraordinary documentary film about Giotto, from his childhood in the Mugello to the major works he painted in Assisi, Padua and Florence. This film is already worth a visit! It is shown alternatively in Italian and English language and lasts 20 minutes. In the nearby room are three computers that enable the visitor to search about Giotto and his works. Another section of the museum is dedicated to the connection between Giotto and the territory, nature and landscape where he was born and that still surround his house-museum today. Thanks to the projection of a video we are introduced to this wonderful world and may better understand the connection between the painter and the subjects that he painted. At last, on the second floor of the house, an artist’s work-shop has been created so that children and teen-agers can directly use different coulors and paintings techiniques .
